The small but mighty Milroy Lions Club has been the heart and soul of the small Redwood County town for 50 years, and on Sunday evening, the group celebrated their half-century of community service.

From a wooden sign to the more modern electric version on the highway, to cleaning up the ditches north of town for 31 years, to helping upgrade the ballparks in town, the Milroy Lions have worked behind-the-scenes to help keep Milroy alive and vibrant.

“I like the fact that I get to spend time with the people of the community,” said Jim Thalacker, president of the club and 38-year member. “When we go out and do functions, we get together with other people in the community. I’ve always been involved in service to the community — it’s just something I like to do.”
