Forrest ‘Woody’ Craig, 81

Meyer, Forrest “Woody” Craig, 81, went home to his Heavenly Father on February 8, 2024, surrounded by loving family.

He was born in Tracy to Melvin and Verna (Kragh) Meyer, graduation from Tracy High School, serve four years in the U.S. Air Force, attended the U of Illinois and the U of Minnesota. As an electrical engineer in innovative fields of computers and solar energy, he worked for several start-up companies, held many patents and retired after a 30-year career at Seagate.

He married childhood friend, Joan DeJong, in August, 1963. Their two daughters were born during 10 years spent in San Diego, CA. He was kind, generous, hard-working and always willing to help. His many interests included woodworking, gardening, butterflies, birding, reading, puzzles, Sudokos, metro orchestra concerts at walking 12 miles a day.

Faith and family were of most importance to him. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 47 years. His last words of advice to grandchildren were, “Keep the family together and keep God in the center.” He supported his family in all their academic, music, dance and sports activities. The family enjoyed holidays together, time on the North Shore, travels across the States and cruises to Alaska and Iceland.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne. He is survived by dear friend and loving wife of 60 years, Joan; daughters, Kristin Parker (Scott) and Karen Contag (Ted); grandchildren, Craig Parker (Taylor), Melissa Parker, Henry “Max” Contag and Charles Contag; siblings, Duane (Sandy) and Marcy Pope (Brad); sister-in-law Connie Meyer; and extended family, co-workers and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. with visitation starting at 10 a.m. and lunch following at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie. Graveside service will be at Modum Cemetery in Slayton on Sunday, June 16, at 1 p.m., w with lunch following in Tracy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Habitat for Humanity, Immanuel Lutheran Church or Bloomington Symphony Orchestra are suggested.
