Jane Weis was born on February 7, 1947, in Tracy, Minnesota to Raymond “Ray” and Esther Forsberg Bassett. She grew up on the family farm near Currie, MN and graduated from IHM High School. Following high school Jane attended school in Sioux Falls, SD to be a flight attendant while in Sioux Falls, Jane worked as a CNA at Sioux Valley Hospital. She returned to Currie and started working at Slayton Manor.
On April 12, 1969, she and John Weis were married at IHM Church in Currie. Following their marriage, they made their home on farms in the Dovray area and raised four children. Jane started working for Home Health for Murray County and at Murray County Hospice. Jane retired from Our Hospice Home. Jane enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with family. Jane passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 77.
Jane was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Westbrook, MN although she attended IHM Church in Currie, MN. Jane was active in St Anthony Church teaching religion classes and with the CCW and was a member of IHM Catholic Daughters of America. Jane served on the DAC Board, was a member of the Dovray Area Boosters and the Dovray Birthday Club. Jane enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, family Sunday meals, attended her grandchildren’s activities, gardening, canning and cleaning chickens.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Jeff and Kelly Weis of Westbrook, MN, Janae and Randy Appel of Queen Creek, AZ, James “Jamie” and Robin Weis of Jeffers, MN, and Jolynn “Jo” and Michael Edwards of Tracy, MN, 14 grandchildren, Eric and Margaret Buchholz, Logan Weis, Mackenzie Weis, Brooklyn Appel, Tyler Appel, Austin Appel, Hallee Appel, Nautica Weis, Bianca Weis, Mikayla Weis, Samantha Edwards, Emma Edwards, Allison Edwards, and Mesa Edwards, two great-grandchildren, Elliot. Buchholz, and Teagan Buchholz, three siblings and their spouses, Herbert and Judy Bassett of Onalaska, WI, Ken and Deb Bassett of Slayton, MN, and Timothy Bassett of Luverne, MN, and brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, two infant siblings, one brother, Chesleigh Bassett, one sister, Lenore “Lori” Duff and husband, Jerry and one niece, Kristin Duffy.
Memorial services will be at IHM Church in Currie, MN on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Tojy Jose OFM officiating. The organist is Patty LeClarie. The song leader is Matt Koopperud. The honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Currie, MN.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at IHM Church from 4-6 p.m. with a CDA Rosary at 3:45 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
