Another headache for City of Tracy: tax-forfeited homes

Housing has been on the tip of the tongues of Tracy officials for years, and much progress has been made in expanding the city’s offerings to bring people to town. At Monday’s Tracy City Council meeting, housing was once again a discussion item, but this conversation wasn’t quite as positive.

Tracy City Administrator Jeff Carpenter informed the council that a tour was held recently where City and County officials visited a dozen homes on the County’s tax-forfeiture list. And what they saw wasn’t pretty. A number of these homes have fallen into such disrepair that they likely can’t be salvaged.

“It’s a problem,” Carpenter said. “Out of all of the houses we went into, there were four or five of them we probably should’ve have went in. They were disgusting. We do have an issue.”
