A cut above

JACK MILLER felt right at home in his barber chair at Wheels Across the Prairie Heritage Center last Thursday. Miller was the centerpiece of the museum’s homage to barbers who have served Tracy over the years.

For half a century, men in Tracy settled into Jack Miller’s leather barber’s chair for a haircut — perhaps it was just a trim, or maybe they were there to even out their flattop. Last Thursday, Miller was the one in that very chair.

Perhaps Tracy’s most famous barber, Miller was honored at the Wheels Across the Prairie Heritage Center as a new building opened on campus after Wheels Board President Jon Wendorff and Tracy Area Chamber of Commerce Director Arika Sanders joined Miller in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The small structure with the name “Jack” posted near the door is an homage to Tracy’s legacy of cutters and shavers.
