Charlotte ‘Char’ Cooley, 76

Charlotte “Char” Ann Cooley, age 76 of Westbrook passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 21, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones after a very courageous battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life & Remembrance will be held from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Westbrook Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held at the Westbrook Cemetery. Charlotte “Char” Ann (Hudson) Cooley was born April 17, 1948 to Charles and Angeline (Sammons) Hudson in Tracy, Minnesota. On July 1, 1948, she was baptized at Tracy Lutheran Church, where she was also confirmed. Char graduated from Tracy High School in 1966.

On November 19,1966, she was married to the love of her life James “Jim” R. Cooley at Tracy Lutheran Church and to this union four children were born. The couple lived in Westbrook. In 1973, they bought and moved to the farm in Rosehill Township. Char worked at the Westbrook Egg Plant, Toro, and the Windom Hospital.  She belonged to the Westbrook VFW Auxiliary and participated in the Westbrook bowling league.  Char was very proud to live in Westbrook and touched the lives of many with her vibrant and magnetic personality.

She loved listening to music, having Bon Fires, camping and cooking with her family and friends.  She was an avid bird watcher and prolific gardener.  “Mom was a courageous and beautiful soul that loved with all of her heart.  She has left a legacy of love that will last a lifetime.”

Charlotte is survived by her children: Chad (LuAnn) of Rosehill Township, Brian (Kerstin) of Windom, Susan (Jason) Madson of Waseca and Barb (Brian Froegel) Cooley of Trempealeau, WI; grandchildren: Yalanda, Aundrea, Quentin (Roxi), Brennon (Ali), Sara & Mitchell Cooley and Josie Madson; great grandchildren: Paige, Kellie, Preston, Bentley, Austynn, Lincoln, Lawsyn and Colton; brother Bruce (Beth) Hudson of Brainerd; companion Denny Erickson of Storden; and many others whose lives were impacted by her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, spouse James Cooley and brother Scott (Deborah) Hudson.
