Forget about a fine wine — how about a fine … Schnapps?

Roger Engler is no archaeologist, but he did recently find a tasty treasure at his home west of Walnut Grove.

Driving behind the wheel of his Bobcat skid loader last Tuesday, Engler accidentally bumped into the wall of a roughly 100-year-old barn. One of the results of this hit-and-run was a couple of exterior boards coming loose and falling partially off. The other was the discovery of a 50- to 60-year 1-liter old bottle of booze.

It might not have been a vintage bottle of Chateau Latour or a rare, $10,000 bottle of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, but the find nonetheless came as a fun surprise to Engler.

Robert and his wife, Linda, have lived on their farm for 47 years, and he estimates the bottle has to be at least 50 years, but maybe older than that.
