Eldora Lena (Loeck) Maas was born November 10, 1928 in Tyler, MN to Albert and Freda (Haase) Loeck of Balaton. She was baptized at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton and confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. Eldora first attended country school in rural Balaton and later attended and graduated from Marshall High School in 1948. After graduation, Eldora was employed at JC Penney in Marshall.
On March 10, 1951, Eldora married Ernest Maas. They made their home on Ernest’s family farm in Johnsonville Township, rural Walnut Grove. Eldora was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church Johnsonville, and later Trinity Lutheran Church of Walnut Grove. At Trinity Johnsonville, she was involved in ladies group, as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, on church council and later was church custodian. She was a dedicated servant of God and helped anyone in need. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and keeping up their home and farm place. Eldora loved family gatherings, reading her bible and doing daily devotions. Eldora very much enjoyed music, especially Old Tyme and Country Western. Two of her favorite song were “Suppertime” by George Younce and “Christmas Guest” by Grandpa Jones.
One wish for herself through her later life especially, was that she would have been blessed with a musical talent, as she truly loved music; though it was not to be. She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she helped babysit when needed.
Eldora is survived by her children: Larry (Patti) Maas of Walnut Grove, Michael Maas of Tracy, Karen (Mark) Nerdahl of Montevideo & Marsha (Elliot) Yungdahl of Clark, NE; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is welcomed into heaven by her parents Albert and Freda Loeck, husband Ernest, sister Dorene Nissen and parents-in-law August & Clara Maas.
