Services for Verona Holm, 88, of Tracy, MN are on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin, MN with a one hour visitation before. Lunch following service in church basement. Interment at Bethany Cemetery after lunch.
Verona E. (Smerling) Holm was born December 27, 1928 in Balaton, Minnesota to Anna (Pagel) and Otto Smerling. She attended and graduated from Balaton High School in 1946. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After graduating, Verona worked at Stone Hill Creamery in Tracy, MN until her marriage to LaVern.
Verona Smerling and LaVern Holm were united in marriage on June 11, 1950 at Bethany Lutheran Church. They lived on the Holm family farm near Garvin and moved to Tracy in December 1987. They were married 63 years.
Verona was a dedicated member of Bethany and Lake Sarah Lutheran Churches and served on the church Alter Guild for 33 years, from 1976-2009.
In her early years she belonged to the NIVRAG Dolls Club. Verona volunteered at Prairie View Senior Living Center in Tracy. She played Bunco and the card game Thirteen with her special friends, Darlene and Shirley. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, loved Wheel of Fortune and spending time with the ladies having coffee at Subway.
Verona died at Prairie View Senior Living Center in Tracy on May 15 at the age of 88.
She is survived by her daughter Barb (Terry) Johnson of Long Lake, MN; son Steve (Nancy) Holm of Marshall, MN; three granddaughters, Kelli (Craig) Lange, Andria (Brent) Hulke, Holly (Jeff) Caple; six great grandchildren, Larady and Cody Lange, Hannah and Reid Hulke, Grace and Ian Caple; brother Wilmar Smerling of Blackduck, MN; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She is welcomed into Heaven by her parents, husband LaVern, daughter Nancy Hinz, brother Lloyd, and sisters Norma and Delores.
