Winter ‘bugs’ are biting

Tracy Area Public Schools are seeing slightly above normal absences this winter.

Many students have missed school this winter, reporting symptoms such as fever, headache, fatigue, cough, sore throat and body aches, according to TAPS Supt. of Schools Chad Anderson.

As of last Thursday, the percentage of elementary students missing school was 9.7% (33 out of 340 students). The number at the high school is considerable lower at 2.9% (9 our of 310 students). The district total is 6.5% (42 out of 650 students).

“We have roughly 18 more absences at the elementary for a variety of other reasons and maybe 15 more at the high school,” Anderson said. “If you include everything, we would be around 10% absent district-wide.
