No slowing down Balaton’s vet run

How much of a difference can a just a handful of people make?

The annual Balaton Vet Run has raised enough money almost each year over the last decade to donate $10,000 to the Eagles Healing Nest of Sauk Centre, a non-profit group committed to meeting the needs of veterans, and service members and their families who suffer from the effects of trauma and the invisible wounds of war including PTSD, anxiety and addiction.

Since 2016, the Vet Run has given $83,700 to the Healing Nest. And in 2023, proceeds of nearly $500 went to the City of Balaton for a new flag pole, flag and solar light.

Keeping a small-town fundraiser going for as long as they have, said Vet Run President Jim Skarl, means the community needs to step up.
