Eugene A. Meyer, age 82 of Avon, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial was held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017, at the Church of St. Benedict in Avon. Burial was held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Calvary Cemetery in Tracy.
Eugene Aloysisus Meyer was born on April 16, 1935, to parents Edward and Lena (Conrad) Meyer in Maryville, MO. He served his country honorably as a soldier in the United States Air Force, until his discharge in 1958. After his release from duty, he graduated from Mankato Area Vocational School as an electronic technician.
He married the love of his life, Norma Ellen McCoy, on October 4, 1955, in Tracy, MN, with whom he raised eight children. Eugene was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 10 and worked with sheet metal in commercial construction for many years. He walked strongly in his faith and was a member of Church of St. Benedict (Avon) and St. Mary’s Church (Tracy). He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching birds, deer hunting, reading, and tinkering in his garage. Eugene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Norma; children, Julie (Scott) Dinger of Holland; Marlene (Shawn) Gordhamer of Apple Valley; Linda (Jack Perroset) Meyer of Portland, OR; Susan (Dan) Pogatschnik of Avon; Margaret (Jim) Dahl of Delano; and Donald (Alison) Meyer of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Christina Dinger, Zachary (Amy) Dinger, Sean (Amy) Meyer, Matthew Gordhamer, Cara Gordhamer, Claire Perroset, Delaney Perroset, Christopher Pogatschnik, Amanda Pogatschnik, Alyssa LeBlanc, Rachel LeBlanc, Eric Dahl, Conner Dahl, Jonathon Dahl, and a soon-to-be-born granddaughter; great-grandchildren, Collin Thompson, Elise Thompson, Lucas Meyer, Isaac Meyer, Jacob Meyer, Neil Meyer, and Emma Meyer; siblings, Lucille Scheiterlien, Lawrence Meyer, Eddie (Bev) Meyer, Jerry (Barb) Meyer, Darlene (Don) Hendricks, and Donna Hinrichs; sister-in-laws, Vivian Freeman and Helen Meyer; and brother-in-law, Edward McCoy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lena (Conrad) Meyer; siblings, John Meyer, Donald Meyer, and Louis Meyer; and children, Loren Meyer and Dennis Meyer.
