Lowell William Bornitz, age 94 of Tracy, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Murray County Hospice House in Slayton, MN. Visitation for Lowell was held 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Life Remembrance Center, Highway 14, Tracy. A private family burial will take place at the Milroy Community Cemetery. Lowell William Bornitz was born January 15, 1923 in Worthington, MN to William and Goldie (Gasper). He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Worthington Public Schools.
On April 16, 1948, Lowell was united in marriage with Betty Jean Gilb. They farmed in the Tracy area all their lives. In 1992, Lowell and Betty retired and moved to an acreage north of Tracy where they continued to raise pail calves and bottle lambs until 2013. Betty passed away June 30, 2014. Lowell continued to live on the farm under his daughter’s care until July 10, 2017 at which time he entered “Our House” Hospice Home in Slayton.
Lowell enjoyed riding his gator, driving around, going to the home farm, watching the crops grow, going to the casino, having his favorite DQ hamburger with Bill every day, visiting and playing cards with family. He loved Charlie Pride music.
He is survived by three children, Larry and Janice (Thooft) Bornitz, Susie (Lorraine) and Denny DeWitte, and Bill (William) Bornitz (fiancée Winnie Barber); nine grandchildren, Kimberly, Randall, and Tyson Bornitz, Austin and Emilie DeWitte, Chris, Courtney, Carter, and William Bornitz, two great-grandchildren, Oakley and Kynlie Bornitz, and sister-in-laws, Violet Hook and Louella Gilb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, infant daughter, Amy, his brother, Lyle, and his sister, Phyllis.
