The funeral service for Laurine “Laurie” Ziemke, 85, of Tracy, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Interment followed at the Tracy Cemetery.
Laurine Mae “Laurie” Ziemke, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Christianson) Prosch, was born on February 3, 1933, in Marshall, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Laurie graduated from Marshall High School in 1951. She attended Mankato State Teachers College and Southwest State and taught school in Winthrop and Walnut Grove.
On June 19, 1954, she and Elverne Ziemke were married there also. Prior to retiring to Tracy in 1999, they lived in Mankato, Redwood Falls and farmed near Walnut Grove and Tracy. Laurie actively participated in choir and women’s groups in Lutheran Churches wherever she lived, most recently at Tracy Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school, Bible School and religious classes, she served on church council, women’s groups, Bible Study and Conference and Synodical Boards. She also enjoyed delivering bulletins to parishioners in their homes. She was very active and participated in many social, community groups and volunteer efforts including Sons of Norway, Study Club, the Hospital Auxiliary and was a 4-H Leader. Laurie always enjoyed learning new things. She enjoyed traveling, reading and attended Senior College.
After a series of health events beginning on January 28, Laurie died on Monday, February 12, 2018, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
She is survived by her husband, El; four children and their spouses: Zindie and Kent Meyers of Spearfish, SD., Rick and Carol Ziemke of rural Walnut Grove, Nancie Ziemke and Paul Carlson of Denver, CO and Beth and Jon Davidann of Kailua, HI; grandchildren and their spouses: Derek and Laura Meyers of Northfield, Lauren and David Reiderer of LaCombe, LA, Jordan Meyers of Gig Harbor, WA, Landon and Karen Ziemke of New Hope, MN, Benjamin Ziemke of Springfield, OR, Noelle Ziemke of rural Walnut Grove, MN, Holly Ziemke of rural Walnut Grove, Eli Davidann of Kailua, HI and Eric Carlson of Denver, CO along with eight great-grandchildren: Micah, Asher, Estella, Truett and Clara Ziemke and Oliver, Isaac and Augustine Reiderer, sister-in-law Sue (and Doug) Nackerud, one niece and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Brian Nackerud.
