Betty Gene Dobson age 93 of Tracy passed away while surrounded by her husband, son and friends, on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at the Tracy Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 –7:00 pm Wednesday at the Tracy Area Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com. Betty was born January 5, 1925 in Cherokee, IA to William Jr. & Jessie (Wayman) Moses. She was baptized as a teenager at the Church of Christ in Cherokee. Betty graduated in 1943 from Wilson High School in Cherokee. She then attended Dakota Bible College for two years.
On December 21, 1944, Betty was united in marriage to Homer Dobson in Cherokee, IA. Together the couple lived in Carthage, SD for three years prior to moving to Tracy, MN in 1948. Betty’s passion was for the church and for its mission work. She taught Sunday school, belonged to three women’s groups, and played piano at church. She also created the church bulletins, helped as a camp counselor and served as Homer’s secretary. Betty also worked as an election judge for many years, and worked with special needs children as a substitute teacher’s aide. Betty loved dogs and children. Over the years she collected many Guardian Angel pictures and Glass House Angels. She enjoyed entertaining and providing meals for people at their home.
Betty Dobson is survived by her husband Homer of 73 years; son Tom (Nancy) of Goodyear, AZ; grandsons: Derek Dobson of St. Paul, and Cody (Alison) Dobson of Eden Prairie; great grandson Griffin Dobson; sister Darlene Dobson of Flagstaff, AZ; and sister in law Louise Dobson of Holstein, IA. She is also survived by a host of “her kids from church” and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents and brother William Moses III.
