The Deputy Registrar’s office at Tracy City Hall is expected to generate $20,000 for the city’s 2017 general fund, plus enough money to pay for a full-time employee in the city office.
That was the message that Madonna Peterson, Tracy’s newly-appointed city administrator, reported to the Tracy City Council on Jan. 9.
Peterson presented an annual report showing that the office had processed a total of $1,009,837 in Minnesota motor vehicle license, drivers’ license, and state Department of Natural Resources fees during 2016. The city handled 6,418 motor vehicle, 1,221 drivers’ license and 270 DNR transactions. The drivers’ license activity was an increase of 61 from the previous year, but a decrease of 67 for DNR licenses and a decline of 15 for motor vehicles. A total of $54,607 was generated for city coffers, a dip of $132 from the previous year..
On-line transactions could be a factor in the small decline, Peterson said. She stressed that it is in local people’s best interests to continue to have their transactions done in person at the Tracy office. Each state transaction done locally, she pointed out, generates more money for the City of Tracy’s general fund, which in turn helps keep property tax rates down.
