Joanne Emma Becklund, Minneapolis, age 87, died May 28, 2019.
Joanne was born (with her twin sister Janice) on October 24, 1931 to Walter and Anna (Clay) Moon at Tracy, MN. She lived with her parents and family on a farm near Amiret, MN, and attended District #13 grade school in Amiret, graduating from Tracy High School in 1949. She received her nurse’s training at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, graduating as a RN in 1952.
Joanne worked as a hospital nurse in Sioux Falls, SD, Slayton, MN, Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC, where she also did her post-graduate work, Ft. Pierce , FL, Denver, CO, plus Fairview and University hospitals in Minneapolis. In 1961, she became an Occupational Nurse and worked for the Onan Corporation, and then Nabisco, retiring in 1996.
Joanne married Morris I. Becklund June 19, 1965 at Hennepin Ave Methodist church in Minneapolis. To this union, one son was born; Michael Lee.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, photography, gardening, and singing. She was active at Minnehaha Methodist church where she took part in study groups, singing in their choir, and was in charge of the church library. Joanne was also a volunteer usher at Orchestra Hall for many years.
Survivors include: Son, Michael, sister Janice (Marv) Eppard of Cambridge, brothers; Frank (Betty) Moon, Hayfield, Dwight (Jean) Moon of St. Francis, and sisters-in-law Jean Moon of Boise, ID, and Beverly Pagnac of Stephen, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Morris, one sister, Mary Ann, and one brother, Dwayne.
Services will be held at 11:00 on June 10th at Minnehaha Methodist Church at 3701 East 50th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55417, with visitation beginning at 10:00. Memorials can be directed to her church, The Epilepsy Foundation, or a charity of your choosing.
