A Memorial Service for Betty Dayland, 68, of Balaton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2016, at the United Methodist Church of Balaton. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Life Remembrance Center of Balaton. A time for lunch and fellowship will follow the service on Saturday at the Balaton Community Center. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Betty Lucille (Kersten) Dayland was born on March 21, 1948, in Minneapolis, to Walter and Madeline (Rice) Kersten. She grew up and graduated from Brooklyn Center High School in 1966. On May 20, 1967, she was united in marriage to Robert Dayland. In 1970, they moved to Balaton. Betty worked for Woolworths in Marshall for a time. She then worked for the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton for many years in different roles. For the last 13 years of her career, she worked as a Secretary at the Russell Middle School. Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles and gardening. She also enjoyed handcrafts including crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a longtime member of Balaton United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed spending time with her Bingo friends and her family, especially her grandchildren.
Betty died on Friday, December 23, 2016, at Sanford Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She is survived by her son Chris Dayland of Balaton, daughter Denise (and Jerry) Gladis of Tracy, granddaughters Kirsten and Lily, siblings Reuben (and Carole) Rice of Coon Rapids, Jerry (and Brenda) Kersten of Isanti, Shirley (and Bill) Paul of Grand Rapids, Marjorie (and Glenn) Grachek of Longville, Virgie (and Tom) Ross of St. Francis, brothers-in-law Warren Soulier of Milwaukee, WI, Duane Johnsons of Shoreville, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, son Jimmy, and sisters Barbara and Nancy.
