This week’s paper puts the spotlight on the 2 Tracy mayoral candidates and the 9 residents vying for five city council seats
Peterson was born in Tracy and attended both St. Mary’s & Tracy Public Schools. He entered the USAF in 1975. He and his wife, Peggi, have five children. He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He has served on the city council, planning commission, hospital board and the EDA.
Why did you decide to run for mayor?
I choose to run for Mayor for one simple reason. As everyone is well aware the last couple of years have been trying for the community as well as for myself and family. With the hiring of Erik (Hansen) as our administrator, I feel that we have the city back on the right track and I wanted to stay to help that progress and move forward. We face a lot of issues in the next few years that will need someone with experience to help get us through. And we need someone with the knowledge of the past. Had I not made the fact that the City had not collected for the improvement for the Hospice property known, we as taxpayers would have had to absorb that cost with no direct benefit to the community.
Cooreman has been married to Kendal for 34 years. The have two children. She and Kendal have been operating Cooreman Contracting, Inc for the past 27 years Son Cole joined them in the family business 11 years ago. She has been co-owner of other successful businesses in Tracy. She and her sister, Tam, are co-chairs of the Toys 4 Tots motorcycle Fun Run. She is a member of The Lake Sarah Church.
Why did you decide to run for mayor?
I decided to run for mayor after being asked to run numerous times and when I found out that our moving to the lake won’t happen for a couple of years yet, I thought this is the perfect time. I have been the mayor before and bring a proven leadership to this role. I have the time and availability to be present to do this job. Having been a business owner in town, a landlord and a citizen I believe I have an advantage for understanding all sides. I work well with people. By the number of times I was asked to run, people believe in my ability to be the mayor.
