Goldie Wilking, age 88 of Tracy, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Prairie View Senior Living in Tracy. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Hoiland Cemetery in Monroe Township. Goldie Darlene (Sorbel) Wilking was born March 24, 1934, to Oscar and Clara (Shellum) Dahl Sorbel in the family home at 65 Rolland St., Tracy, Minnesota. She was baptized on November 4, 1934, and later confirmed in the Christian faith at Tracy Lutheran Church. Goldie attended Tracy High School and graduated on May 28, 1952. After graduation, she worked for Drs. Workman and Lee for several years as secretary/receptionist. On June 17, 1953, Goldie married her high school sweetheart, Herman Wilking, while he was in the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge from service, they lived in Tracy, until 1956. The couple then moved to Garvin, where Herman worked in the Garvin Elevator and they raised four sons: Donald, David, Darrell, and Duane. Goldie worked for Duane Peterson Insurance Agency in Garvin before taking the bookkeeping job at the Tracy Nursing Home in 1972. She became the Nursing Home administrator in 1975, until she retired on December 31, 1998. In 1990, Goldie and Herman moved to 309 E. Craig Avenue in Tracy. In February 2018, Goldie became a resident at Prairie View Nursing Home. Goldie was a member of Tracy Lutheran Church all her life while being active in choir, circles, committees, President of the congregation, served as church council secretary and also a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Garvin Legion Auxiliary, Kiwanis, and board member of Tracy Chamber of Commerce. Goldie loved to dance and enjoyed raising horses and sheep in their backyard while living in Garvin. She also loved watching her sons play football, basketball, baseball and wrestling, where many times in her excitement she could be heard in the stands loudly cheering! She made quilts for all her grandchildren when they were babies and when they graduated from high school. Goldie took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Goldie leaves behind her son Donald (Lanae) of Lakefield, grandsons: Dillon, Dru and Dustin; son David (Kathy) of Tracy, grandchildren: Nicole, Darin and Rachel; son Darrell (Karen) of Yankton, SD, and granddaughters: Shenandoah, Shelby and Chelsie; son Duane (Carol) of Yankton, SD, granddaughters: Alisha and Janelle. She is also survived by her 22 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Eunice Dahl of Santa Ana, CA; brother-in-law Lee Wilking of Long Point, IL; plus, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded by in death by her parents, husband, Herman of 54 years, brothers: Marion, Donald, Jerome, & Orville Dahl, and Claire, Orie & Leland Sorbel, sister Evelyn Herder and great-grandson Bryson Wilking.
