Gary Milan Schoer, age 81, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Nazareth Health in Stoughton, Wis. He was born on May 17, 1941, in Revere, Minn., the son of the late Harold and Iris Schoer.
Gary married Ruth Ann (Haar) Schoer on June 26, 1964. They were married for 20 years.
Gary was confirmed at Garvin Lutheran Church in Garvin, Minn., and attended Garvin and Tracy schools. He worked on farms, John Deere Dealership in Tracy, Minn., built pre-fab homes in Waseca, Minn., retired from City of Walnut Grove, and performed small engine repair and handyman business in Currie, Minn.
Gary had the natural ability to fix anything. In his younger years his garage was the repair shop for friends and family, especially for snowmobiles. He built a paddleboat for the family campsite at Shetek near Currie, Minn. He and his son, Dan, built a three-wheel bicycle. Gary loved gardening, fishing, camping and working in his garage and something sweet at bedtime. In his later years he did woodworking. His favorite place was living with his long-time partner, Ellie, at his home in Currie, until he was unable to live on his own. He then lived at Nazareth Health in Stoughton, Wis., until the time of his death.
Gary is survived by his long-time partner; Ellie Jakusz; sons, Kevin (Mary) Schoer of Brooklyn, Wis., Jeff (Christal) Schoer of Jackson, Minn., Dan (Sherry) Schoer of McFarland, Wis., and Mike (Cynthia) Schoer of Jefferson, Wis.; grandchildren, Kera (Dana) Gostomczik, Erika (Brady) Quam, Kyle Schoer, Jory Schoer, Tyler Schoer, Logan Schoer, David (Brittany) Ziegler, Corbin Schoer, and Brittany Schoer; great-grandchildren, Kade, Kaleb, Maddyn, Romyn and Aeyro Gostomczik, Myla Garcia, Kaylyn, Iziaha, Ervin, Wyatt, Harleigh and Slayter Schoer, Xavien Ziegler, Karsen Swinehart and Oaklyn Quam; sisters, Lynette Deslauriers of Currie, Minn., and Janice (Ralph) Prescher of Williams, Ore.; sister-in-law, Cheryl Schoer of Crooks, S.D.; brother, Lyle (Linda) Schoer of Hartford, S.D.; his beloved dog, Duke; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Iris Schoer; sister, Sharon Stoppel; and brothers, Larry Schoer and Dennis Schoer.
Per Gary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at HOILAND LUTHERAN CEMETERY, 2950 County Road 14, Garvin, Minn, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
