Carrie M. Gilb, 84

Services were held Thursday, November 18, 1999 at the English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, Minnesota for Carrie M. Gilb.

Pastor Paul Carlson officiated. Honorary casket bearers were Brett Vickerman, Robert Christy, John Christy, Gene Christy, Reed Hassinger, Ellen Varnum, Julie Nelson and Abby Hassinger.

Active casket bearers were Ross Albertson, Grant Albertson, Danny Gilb, Randy Gilb, Leo Vickerman and Mark Vickerman.

Carrie Mary Gilb was born on July 5, 1915 the daughter of John and Mary (Burrell) McComb at Marengo, Iowa. The family moved to the Walnut Grove area where Carrie went to school. She was the Valedictorian of her class in 1933.

She was united in marriage to Leo V. Gilb in March of 1933 at her parents home. The couple then made their home in Tracy, MN. In 1937 they moved to a farm north of Walnut Grove. In 1956 they moved to Walnut Grove and then in 1957 they moved to their present home.

Carrie was a member of English Lutheran Church, the 20th Century Club since 1965. A member of General Federated Womans Club of Redwood Co. where she held several offices. She was very active in the Republican party and a delegate to several conventions. Carrie was also a member of the Gales Extension Club, she loved to play bridge. Carrie was instrumental in getting the Plum Creek Bookmobile started.

Carrie passed away at her home in Walnut Grove on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at the age of 84.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bob (Jeanine) Christy, Sacred Heart, MN, Mrs. Keith (Judy) Boe, Presso, AZ, Mrs. Bruce (Sally) Hassinger, Denver, CO; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo in 1981, one son Charlie in 1980, a daughter Barbara in 1998 and two grandsons.

Arrangements were handled by Jacobson Funeral Home of Walnut Grove, MN.

Orvin T. Likness, 52

Services for Orvin Theodore Likness, 52, of Pipestone were held Thursday, November 18, 1999 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Burial was in New Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Likness died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, of a heart attack.

He was born May 21, 1947, to Ted Orvin and Mary Adele (Mortland) Likness in Tyler. He was baptized Oct. 26, 1947, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tyler. He was raised on the family farm near Balaton and attended school in Ruthton. After his high school graduation May 27, 1966, he became employed by Rupp Construction in Ruthton as a gravel pit driver.

He and Pamela Janssen were married April 14, 1973, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woodstock. Following their marriage, they lived in Ruthton and he worked for Pipestone County as a road grader operator. In 1984, they moved to Pipestone and he continued his employment as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. While living in Ruthton he was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department. In the summer, he enjoyed camping on the weekends. He was an avid Vikings football fan.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Christene Schroeder of Pipestone; son Matthew of Pipestone; two grandchildren and four sisters, Adele Cook of Coon Rapids, Ardith Hoffbeck of Tracy, Mary Ellen Lavoie of Tracy and Karen Barrett of Slayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
