Schuh falls in OT in semifinals

With four layers of bandages and gauze wrapped tightly around his forehead, TMB/WWG 133-pounder David Schuh fought to the finish and then some, but his efforts fell just short, as the Panther junior fell to Minneota’s Adam DeVlaeminck, 8-5, in overtime in Saturday’s Class A state semifinals. Schuh and DeVlaeminck spent most of the first period feeling each other, neither able to collect a point. That changed early in the second when Schuh scored an escape point.  Later in the period, Schuh suffered a nasty gash above his right eye, sending a stream of blood down his nose. DeVlaeminck took a 3-1 lead on a takedown with :54 left in the second to lead 3-2 heading into the third. In the third period, Schuh regained a 5-3 lead with a takedown at the 1:47 mark, but an escape by DeVlaeminck tied it at 5-5 with :38 left.  In overtime, DeVlaeminck scored another takedown 9 seconds in to take the match.   Consolation semifinals In Saturday’s consolation semifinals, Schuh took on Ian Phrakonkham, a junior from Friends of Bates Academy. Schuh took a 3-2 lead into the second period. He was up 6-4 after a takedown, but Phrakonkham got one of his own for a 7-6 advantage after two. Phrakonkham would then score a fall with :42 left in the third.
