April 14, 1955 — Karen Emerson, Ann Rogers and Dwight Swanson, Tracy and Richard Portman, Currie, were honored by South Dakota State University for scholastic achievement and were invited to attend Scholarship Recognition Day at the college. High school students, who have been selected by principals and superintendents for outstanding scholastic achievement, will take part in guidance clinics, hear speeches by well-known individuals and compete for a possible 72 scholarships.

April 15, 1965 — A booming crash of lightning knocked out one person, also knocked out many windows and TV sets, caused a gas leak and a fire — and frightened the whole north end of the city at the supper hour Saturday night. Jerry Landuyt, seated on a stool by the window in the Imperial station on Highway 14, was knocked to the floor unconscious. He was later revived and was examined by a doctor.

April 10, 1975 — A Hereford cow—buried under a snowdrift since the Jan. 1012 blizzard at the Art Gnadt farm near Lake Wilson — was discovered and rescued last week after its 80-day confinement, the Murray County Herald reported. The cow, one of a herd of 78 cows and calves, was discovered bv Gnadt in making a routine check of his livestock. The animal survived in its snow-ice cave munching on chopped hay. Gnadt said the cow weighed 1,200 lbs. at the time of his confinement and weighed about 1,000 lbs. when it was rescued.

April 11, 1985 — A proposal for a charitable gambling operation in the Tracy Municipal Liquor Store was vetoed by a 5-2 margin Monday by the Tracy City Council. Voting against granting a lease for a gambling operation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society were Ken Anderson, Keith Stanton, Bill Fischer, Ray Peterson and Jan Otto. Mayor Dale Johnson and Chris Kamrud were in the minority.

April 12, 1995 — Darren Eliason, Currie, is a cast member in the spring theater production at SSU. Eliason, a sophomore music education major, is on-stage for “Marvin’s Room,” an awardwinning family comedy by Scott McPherson. The director is Professor John Huston.

April 13, 2005 — Five Tracy Area High School students have qualified for the state speech tournament: Bobbi Buyck, Celia Brockway, Rebecca Gervais, Carly Miller and Casie Miller.

April 15, 2015 — Three Tracy Area High School students have qualified for the state speech tournament.
Noah Tiegs, Anna Johnston, and Hannah Brockway will be competing at the state meet at Lakeville North High School in Lakeville. The students qualified for state with top places at the Section 3A meet at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. Tiegs placed second in the poetry category; Johnston was third in poetry, and Brockway was third in storytelling. Only the top three students in each category advance to state.
