Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

April 28, 1955 — Coach Arch Ward’s baseball team got off to an impressive start Tuesday as the team got 14 hits behind Merlyn Mickelson’s good pitching performance to beat Balaton 9-1. Newcomer Robert Shaw slammed four hits in five trips to the plate while Wayne Carter, Mickelson and Gordon DeVetter hit twice in four tries.

April 29, 1965 — Harry Retzloff of Tracy hit the jackpot fishing at Pierre, SD, last weekend, when he caught a record-breaking 32-lb. northern in the reservoir above the Oahe dam. The 45-inch lugger was taken with a 30-lb. test line, fishing off shore in what is referred to as “The Gravel Pit” along the Missouri River about nine miles north of Pierre.

April 24, 1975 — Al Joosten, will defend his title in an open arm wrestling contest at the Northeast State Bank in Minneapolis. Joosten, formerly of Balaton but now residing in a new home in Tracy, said the tournament is expected to draw more than 250 participants, including Rodney Krueger of this area.

April 25, 1985 — The annual Hendricks-Ivanhoe Invitaional was once again held at Southwest State University. Milroy captured first in a close race in the girls division. Clay Rosa took 3rd place honors in two events with a throw of 112’ 5” in the discus, and a time of 25.6 the 200 meter dash. The boys 400 relay team consisting of Troy Rolland, Randy Schumacher, Jay Rekedal and Rosa, placed third with a time of 50.6. Senior Jane Lanoue placed first in the high jump and the 400 dash with a 5-0 leap and a time of 1:03.8.

April 26, 1995 — The Tracy school board decided to reconsider cutting the high school baseball program after approximately 30 parents and high school baseball players from Milroy, Balaton and Tracy came to the regular meeting of the school board to show support for the sport. At the April 10 meeting of the board, budget cuts were made to the tune of $80,000 with $6,000 of those cuts from eliminating baseball.

April 27, 2005 — The Panther baseball team won over YME 10-2 in a windblown contest at Tracy Monday. Matt Bauer pitched all 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 5 to get the win. He also hit a home run to drive in 3 runs while Erik Frisvold led in the number of hits with 2.

April 29, 2015 — Greenwood Nursery is Thursday Men’s Late League bowling champion. Members of the team include Roger Kleven, Jeff Farber, Denny Hemish, James Kleven and Dave Hemp. Landuyt Trucking is the Wednesday Night Ladies’ Bowling League Champions. Team members include Janet Theisen, Wendy Knakmuhs, Doreen Osland, Karen Olson, Dawn Hanson, Morganne Mattison, Kris Landuyt and Priscilla Comnick.
