New store planned

Plans have been announced for the construction of a new Lewis Family Drug store in Tracy.

Lewis Family Drug plans to build a new 4,000 square-foot store in Tracy.
Brad Tams, regional manager for Lewis Drug, said Tuesday that if all goes as expected, construction on the new store will begin soon. Completion is targeted for mid-November.
However, Tams said he could not identify where the new store will be built until a land purchase is finalized. He expects paperwork for that transaction to be completed by the end of this week.
In addition to a pharmacy, Tams indicated that the new store will carry a mix of retail items, similar to other Lewis stores.
The Sioux Falls, SD-based company has 45 stores in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota. Lewis Drug was founded in 1942.
Lewis Family Drug has been a part of Tracy since February of this year, when it purchased John’s Drug from Maria Schleppenbach-Grogan. John’s Drug was founded by the late John Schleppenbach in 1966.
The Lewis store will move from its current location at 131 Third St. once the new store is complete, Tams said.
