TAPS has to play schedule by ear when working around tournament

By Per Peterson

It’s a good problem to have.

The Panthers’ win in the Section 3AA finals Friday has kept the state tournament buzz alive in Tracy and surrounding towns by putting the team back in the state tournament for the first time since 1997.

It also forced school officials — seven of them all together — to do some serious juggling to this week’s school and bussing schedule around a four-day tournament with a twist.

“It’s been hectic,” TAHS Athletic Director Bill Tauer said. “To me, it’s a ‘fun busy.’ It does cause some anxiety, but I enjoy the planning part of it. Not everyone is going to agree with all the decisions, but they’re made in the best interest of the kids.”
