Peggy Friberg

Nadine “Peggy” Friberg was born in Glenwood, MN on July 29, 1932 to Arthur Leander Bagne and Kaisa Bertina (Anderson) Bagne. Growing up Peggy was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and attended Glenwood public schools, graduating in 1950.  In High School Peggy was on the dance line and played bass clarinet in the band, and was part of a group of friends known as the “Gopher Girls.”  Subsequent to high school Peggy attended St. Cloud Teacher’s College and accepted her first teaching position in Clarkfield, MN, where she met her future husband, Charles “Chuck” Friberg. They were married on June 26, 1954 at Glenwood Lutheran Church and then moved to Brookings, SD where Chuck attended pharmacy school and the couple’s first daughter, Nancy, was born in 1955.

Upon Chuck’s graduation in 1956 he worked in pharmacies in Fergus Falls, Springfield, where second daughter, Wendy, was born in 1960, Hutchinson and finally Tracy,  where Chuck went into partnership with Bob Brix in 1967 and opened Brix Drug (formerly Kirkpatrick Drug). Peggy kept the books at the drugstore and also managed the gift department for 31+ years, until they retired in 1998 and closed the business.

In the summer of 2001 Chuck was diagnosed with lung cancer and the couple moved to Marshall, MN, where Chuck passed away on December 15, 2001. Peggy stayed in Marshall another 12 years, spending time with sister Iney (Weston ) Hendrickson, who had resided in Marshall for 50 years, and volunteering at the hospital thrift shop. Shortly after Iney passed away in 2012 Peggy was diagnosed with dementia and moved to the Anoka, MN area to be near her daughter, Nancy (William) Kingston. Her final residence was the memory care unit at Arbor Oaks of Andover in Andover, MN.

Peggy passed away on May 23, 2019.

She is survived by her sister Genell (Douglas) Grund of New London, MN, daughter Nancy and husband, William, of Ramsey, MN, daughter Wendy Cronin of Bradenton, FL and grandsons Sean and Ryan Cronin of Dayton, OH, along with loving nieces, Jill Hendrickson, Susan (Joe) McVicker, Beth (Don) Vangsness, Jennifer (Dan) Carrigan, Phyllis and Mary Grace Millemaci, and nephew, David Grund.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Kaisa, sisters Phyllis (Richard) Thompson of Glenwood and Iney (Weston) Hendrickson of Marshall, nephews Jimmy and Mike Grund of New London and Gregg Hendrickson of Marshall, and nieces Susan Grund of New London and Diane Friberg of Richfield, MN.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, at noon at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay Street NW, Andover, MN, with a short service at 1:00pm. A memorial service will be held at Glenwood Lutheran Church, on Wednesday, June 19, at 1:00pm. Interment will be following the memorial service in Glenwood next to Chuck at Indherred Church Cemetery in Starbuck, MN, amid many family members, friends and relatives.
