The No. 2-ranked TMB/WWG Panthers defeated Pipestone Area 64-16 Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Section 3A wrestling tournament. The Panthers were led by pins from Devin Carter (106 pounds), Blaine Petersen (138), Sawyer Schwartz (170), Eathan Martinez (195), Trevor Eisfeld (220), and Travis Willhite (285). Caden Johnson added to the Panther total with a major decision at 152. Pipestone Area was only able to defeat the Panthers in three matches – 113, 145 and 160. Pipestone Area also forfeited four matches on the night.
The defending Section 3A champion Panthers will now face third-seeded Minneota in the Section 3A semifinals on Saturday in Lamberton at 12:30 p.m. The winner will wrestle again shortly thereafter for the Section 3A title, which was been won by TMB/WWG the last two years.
Jackson County Central is the No. 1 seed in Section 3A. The Huskies will take on Canby (4) in the other Section 3A semifinal bout Saturday.
