Within one half hour, the Tracy City Council welcomed a new city administrator to town and said goodbye to its leader.

Mayor Anthony Dimmers officially announced his resignation at Monday night’s council meeting.

Dimmers explained to the council that he has accepted a position with the United States Department of Agriculture in Dover, DE.

“After long thought and some struggle, I decided to accept the position so I will no longer be able to fulfill my responsibilities as mayor,” Dimmers told the council. “It’s been an honor to serve this city.”

Dimmers’ resignation takes effect March 16, at which time Mayor Pro Tem Kou Thao will begin serving as acting mayor until the next council meeting on March 23. At that time, the council will either appoint a current council member or Thao as interim mayor or select an applicant (applications are available at City Hall and are due by 4:30 p.m. on March 20).
