Luverne Carlson

Luverne Carlson was born on July 4, 1925 on the family farm near Garvin in Lake Sarah Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Hjalmer and Gena Peterson Carlson.   He grew up on the farm and graduated from Tracy High School.  On November 24, 1949 he and Elfrieda Hoffrogge were married at Revere Lutheran Church.  Following their marriage, they farmed in Lake Sarah Township from 1949 to 1958, they then farmed near Elbow Lake, MN.

In 1969 they moved to the Carlson family farm.  They retired in 1989 but continued living on the farm.  Elfrieda passed away on March 10, 2002.  This was a great loss to Luverne as he and Elfrieda were seldom seen apart.  In 2011 the Carlson farm was designated a Century Farm.  In 2016 Luverne moved to Country View Senior Community in Walnut Grove.  In 2018 Luverne moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton and due to a fall in 2019 Luverne became a resident of the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center.  He passed away there on Monday, May 3, 2021 at the age of 95.  Luverne was a lifetime member of Lake Sarah Baptist Church in rural Slayton.  He also served on the Lake Sarah Township Board for many years. Luverne enjoyed making his daily trip to Slayton for his noon meal but most importantly was the socializing.

Survivors include his three children, Lynn Schuch of Bloomington, MN, Leon Carlson of Garvin, MN, and Luann Nelson and her husband, John of Elk River, MN, seven grandchildren, Kari Schuch and Bert Stewart, Terra and Tau Watts, Libby and Trent Barringer, Ben and Bricelyn Carlson, Briana Beard, Shannon and Matt Thomas, and Amanda and Dan Bier, 10 great-grandchildren and special friends, Jerry and Judy Mickelson of Garvin, MN.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elfrieda, daughter-in-law, Karla Carlson, grandson, Trevor Carlson, five siblings and their spouses, Goodwin and Lillian Carlson, Austin and Katherine Carlson, Ferdinand and Grace Carlson, Maynard and June Carlson, Ione and Ernest Barstad, sister-in-law, Sophia Carlson and special friend, Evelyn Herder.

Funeral Services will be at Lake Sarah Baptist Church, rural Slayton, on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Kory Tedrick officiating with special music by Glenn and Erna Peterson.  The pallbearers are his grandchildren.  Interment is at Lake Sarah Baptist Church in rural Slayton.
