‘I’m not sick, I have cancer’

Being the matriarch of a large family with kids of all ages, Amy Munson is used to taking care of others. These days, she’s turned her attention more toward herself.

She visited the doctor in May to have a spot on her lower lip checked, and then went on with her what turned out to be a busy summer — preparing for graduation for son, Matthew, going on a mission trip, taking a family vacation. In July, she noticed the spot was still there and instead of trying to continue to cover it up, she went in for a biopsy. That’s when she was reminded she was behind on her mammogram.
