TMB dance now a club sport; E-sports likely to be offered

The District No. 2904 School Board on Monday heard about several changes coming for opportunities outside of the classroom for students.

While in the height of the Tracy Twisters dance team participation was high, the numbers have decreased to the point that dance will become a club sport instead of a competitive sport this year. Just four years ago, there were 17 students in danceline.

This year, only three students registered and they were in junior high. Tracy Area High School does co-op with RTR for dance, but RTR only had interest from two students and they were junior high level as well.

“We’re looking at going to a club sport like it was when dance started in the early ‘90s and work on rebuilding the program back up,” Activities Director Bill Tauer said. “A lot of the older kids are going to studio dance because they compete now. Others have jobs or have gone PSEO.”
