TRACY: A time-honored tradition continued last Friday at Tracy Area High School, as a group of veterans were honored at the Tracy Veterans’ Day program.

David Dieter, Commander of the Tracy American Legion Post 273, presented the opening remarks, and Tracy Mayor Pam Cooreman gave somewhat of a non-conventional welcome, asking the high school students who filled the gym bleachers why Veterans’ Day is celebrated on Nov. 11 each year and what poppies symbolize.

MILROY: With the sounds of the students at Milroy Public School singing patriotic songs Friday, the community celebrated Veterans’ Day.

Kathy Knapper read the words of a speech written by her father, Lee Simmons. He reminded those in attendance that veterans are drawn from many different backgrounds. In addition to the veterans we have honored for years, we honor a new generation of veterans since Sept. 11, 2001.
