Project workgroup identifies 6 priorities for Lyon County Fairgrounds

Talks have heated up this year about major improvements at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. And those talks continued at last week’s Lyon County Board meeting.

Lyon County Environmental Administrator Roger Schroeder last Tuesday presented once again to the board concerning infrastructure improvements at the fairgrounds. Schroeder said a new project work group went over priorities and considerations and what all needs to happen to bring to upgrade the fairgrounds.

Committee members include Cassie Weiss, Luke Tietz, Josh Schafer, Troy Deutz, Marc Klaith, Cody Sleiter, Karen VanKeulen, John Lanoue, Travis Boehnke, Jennifer Louwagie, Brock Klaith, Sam Jens, and Lyon County Commissioners Gary Crowley and Charlie Sanow.

The group was the result of the Lyon County Ag. Society (Fair Board) beginning discussions with members of Lyon County, seeking ideas for improvements to the facilities at the fairgrounds — many either antiquated or in need of major fixes.

The workgroup prioritized needs and discusses project benefits, budget estimates and potential community involvement. Four meetings were held to generate an improvements idea list and prioritize; review project ideas and prioritize; review budget estimates and refine the priorities list; and identify community stakeholders and benefits.
