Facing an employee shortage that has lasted for more than a year, the Lyon County Board last week pushed through an hourly pay increase for 17 Lyon County Sheriff’s Office workers — nine correction officers and eight dispatchers.

“We’ve been down five full-time positions for about a year, maybe a little more,” Lyon County Sheriff Eric Wallen said. “We’re struggling to get applications to fill those spots, and the ones that do trickle in have turned out to not be great fits. We feel that we need to do something more to get our staff back close to full complement.”
