State wrestling, first round
Freshman David Schuh might’ve had the toughest draw out of anyone in Class A, as he was matched up against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Trey Gunderson, who came into the tournament with a 51-0 record.
Schuh got up on Gunderson early in the first period with a takedown for a 2-0 lead, but Gunderson countered to tie it before earning the fall in 1:34.
Devin Carter had his hands full as well, going up against Jeremiah Bien of Goodhue.
Carter went up 2-0 after the first period, but found himself trailing 4-2 with :51 left in the second as Bien slowly grabbed some momentum. But a takedown by Carter tied it with :27 left, and the Panther junior sealed the win with two points with just :10 to go to advance to the championship semifinals with a 6-4 victory.
Junior Alex Schuh was pinned by WCAA’s Hunter Gruchow in :34.
