Championship semifinals

Devin Carter advanced to the finals with a 9-6 decision over Gage Bartlels of Chatfield.
Carter never trailed in the match. The two were tied at 3-3 heading into the second period when Carter took over, scoring four points in the last :25 for a 7-3 cushion at the end of the second. A reversal put him up 9-3 with 1:08 left, essentially punching his ticket to the finals.
Consolation semifinals
120 pounds
Freshman David Schuh was pinned by Chase Smith of Minnewaska Area in the second period (2:13) on Saturday. The loss bumped Schuh from medal contention.
State wrestling, first round
120 pounds
Freshman David Schuh might’ve had the toughest draw out of anyone in Class A, as he was matched up against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Trey Gunderson, who came into the tournament with a 51-0 record.
Schuh got up on Gunderson early in the first period with a takedown for a 2-0 lead, but Gunderson countered to tie it before earning the fall in 1:34.

Devin Carter had his hands full as well, going up against Jeremiah Bien of Goodhue.
Carter went up 2-0 after the first period, but found himself trailing 4-2 with :51 left in the second as Bien slowly grabbed some momentum. But a takedown by Carter tied it with :27 left, and the Panther junior sealed the win with two points with just :10 to go to advance to the championship semifinals with a 6-4 victory.
