Of course Devin Carter was drawn to wrestling when he was young and impressionable. What kid wouldn’t want to climb into the squared circle, slam their opponent over the head with a folding chair and do a suplex off the top turnbuckle?

“I wasn’t a very nice kid, I just wanted to hit people, because I watched WWE, and my dad actually told me that’s what wrestling was. Of course I was all for it.”

It didn’t take long for Carter to realize the path he was about to take had no resemblance to what he saw on TV.

His journey has included multiple trips to the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament, but his latest will be the most memorable. Carter won his first individual state championship Saturday night after coming up one win short a year ago.
