Farmers hope to get into fields in late April/early May

It’s no secret that spring is here, and while it’s too early to determine if spring planting will be on time this year, it’s important to note that Lyon, Redwood and Murray counties — among others in the region — are still in the moderate drought stage, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Coming off a very dry 2022, all the snow the area has received is a blessing to farmers. Whether or not that blessing will result in an optimal planting season is anyone’s guess.
