After years of waiting, residents in part of the Judicial Ditch 15 system can look forward to some much needed repairs and improvements. However, the vote last week by the joint drainage authority of Lyon and Redwood counties to move forward with the request did not come without concern from others within the ditch system.

The original petition for improvement was accepted by Lyon and Redwood counties in October 2018. The petition included a request that separable maintenance be considered as part of the proposed improvement. Separable maintenance can be used when repairs are needed in the system and is divided among all landowners who are part of the joint ditch system.

Upon accepting the petitions, the board appointed the engineering firm of Bolton & Menk, Inc. to perform the duties required of the project. Bolton & Menk prepared and filed a preliminary survey report with the board.
