Izak S. Wixon, 19, of Brookings, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from injuries sustained in a workplace accident. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 8, 2023, at Victory Christian Church, in Balaton, MN, with the service being livestreamed. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings, with a prayer service beginning at 5:00 pm. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Izak Steven Wixon was born on August 20, 2003, in Pipestone, MN, the son of Todd Wixon and Dawn Sherman. He gained his brother Karter a few years later. He grew up in Balaton and later moved to Pipestone at the age of four. Through school he was involved in wrestling and football. During high school, he worked at Hank’s Grocery. He moved to Brookings to continue high school and worked at Walmart, Casey’s and Daktronics. He had to work hard to keep his pickup running! He graduated from Brookings High School in 2022. He recently started working for Bowes Construction until the time of his passing.
Izak enjoyed working on his truck. A do-it-yourselfer, he learned to fix it with endless calls to his family and watching many YouTube videos. Growing up he had a special bond with his Papa, and all their adventures working on the farm. He also spent a lot of time working on Demo-cars with his dad. Recently, Izak found a lot of joy in hunting and being on the search for the next gun he needed. He had a special place for his family, and always found a fun way to entertain his younger cousins. He liked to bake Rice Krispies and Brownies and was notorious for cutting his piece out of the middle of the pan. When a family meal was planned, Izak would always come bearing his own Tupperware to bring home leftovers.
Izak loved his family! He was quick to call any one of them and talk to them about his latest adventures and just to share about his life. He was a strong young man, who always made the best out of any trial he went through.
Grateful for having shared his life is his father, Todd Wixon (fiancé Angela Bakewell) of Brookings, SD; brother, Karter (Emilea Thooft) of Pipestone, MN, grandma, Dar Sherman (Bryan Haack) of Balaton, MN; step grandpa, Gary ‘Fred’ Vos of Lake Benton, MN; great grandma Janice Steinle of Marshall, MN; great grandpa Duane Petersen of Marshall, MN; uncles and aunts, Brian and Carol Wixon of Marshall, MN, Danny Wixon of Brookings, SD, Austin Wixon of Sioux Falls, SD, Danielle and Casey Benson of Cottonwood, MN, DeziRae and Brad Steele of Pipestone, MN; girlfriend, Kiran Vugteveen of Brookings, SD; along with many cousins and friends.
Izak was preceded in death by his mom, Dawn Sherman; grandpa, Dale Sherman; grandma, Diane Vos and grandpa, Steve Wixon.
