Sandra Kay Nyquist, 76

Sandra Kay Nyquist, age 76 of Tracy, passed away Friday June 9, 2023 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls from complications of a procedure.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 16, at Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m. at the Tracy Area Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.  Interment is in Bethany Cemetery near Lake Shetek. Sandra was born July 23, 1946 in Tracy, MN to Darrell & Dorothy (Reese) Madsen.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Sandra graduated from Tracy High School in 1964, and attended McKennan Hospital Nursing School in Sioux Falls, where she earned her L.P.N. degree August 20, 1965. Sandra worked in Boulder, CO, in Emergency Services & Psych Ward for three years. She then returned to the Garvin area and began working at Weiner Memorial Hospital in Marshall as a Surgical Scrub Nurse.

On August 8, 1971, Sandra was united in marriage to George Nyquist at Tracy Lutheran Church. Together they made their home on a farm in Shetek Township.  Sandra was very active in her work on the farm.  Sandra later began working in home health care until her retirement in 2008 after 40 years as an L.P.N.  Sandra could often be found working in the church basement.  She loved to cook and taught kids cooking in Luther League for many years.  She belonged to the Golden Age Club & Tracy Senior Center.  She was an avid reader, and enjoyed Sudoku and puzzle books. She loved to play cards.  She also enjoyed watching the MN Twins and Vikings.  Most of all Sandra loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

Sandra is survived by her children: June (John) Rezac of Waterville, Daniel (Teresa) Nyquist of Tracy, & Carl (Soni) Nyquist of Tracy; grandchildren: Andrew, Cassandra (Nathan), Samuel, Isabelle, Otto, Skye, Sven, Thea & Kurtis; great grandson Milo; sisters Jane Madsen of Tucson, AZ & Rita Wempen of Clear Lake, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and brother-in-law Richard Wempen.
