Jeff Carpenter is always up for a challenge, and he welcomes the ones he will get as the City of Tracy’s new city administrator.

Carpenter will succeed Erik Hansen as Tracy’s administrator; the Tracy City Council on Aug. 28 voted 6-1 to move Carpenter into the position. Tracy’s Community Development Director, Carpenter was hired as the EDA Director in Tracy in October 2017, and before that, worked for Schwan’s for 31 years — 24 in a management position.

Carpenter unsuccessfully threw his hat into the city administrator ring in 2020 when the Tracy City Council opted to hire Hansen. He also was recently a finalist for the same post in Tyler, a position he said he would’ve accepted had it been offered to him.
