Beverly Mattson, 93

Beverly JoAnn Mattson, 93, of Maplewood, MN, passed away on October 1, 2023. Beverly was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Beverly was born on November 11, 1929, to Arthur and Anna Paschke in Currie, Murray County, MN. She moved with her family to Balaton in 1933. Beverly attended school in Balaton, graduating in 1947. She worked at Tenhoff’s Drug Store soda fountain for several years, where her future husband Einer frequently went for sodas. Beverly was joined in marriage to Einer Mattson on June 25, 1950, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton. They resided at Current Lake Store until may of 1966 when they bought a grocery store in Balaton and named it Mattson’s Market.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 73 years, Einer Mattson, and her daughters Deborah (Earl) Fort of Mapleton, Utah, Marlys (Dave) Engebretson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Luann (Tom) Riester of Arden Hills, MN. She was a cherished grandmother to Brittany (Simeon) Biddle of Fort Collins, CO, Bill Riester of Arden Hills, Samantha Engebretson (James Galipeau) of Brookings, SD, and Laura Engebretson (Zach Van Harris) of Sioux Falls, SD. Beverly also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Kellan, Isla, Etta and Porter Biddle. In addition to sisters-in-law Evy Keena, and Mary Mattson, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Beverly had a passion for sewing, quilting, upholstery, reading, bowling and making lefse. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, donating her time and talent making quilts and tablecloths for the church. Beverly was known for her meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to her hobbies. Her creativity and attention to detail brought joy to those around her.

A ceremony to celebrate Beverly’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on October 28, 2023. The service will take place at Twin Cities Grace Fellowship, 208 Twin Lake Blvd., Little Canada, MN. Family and close friends will gather to honor her memory and share stories of her life. Visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m.

Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Paschke, her mother, Anna Paschke, and her sister Marjorie (Paschke) Smith. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth and unwavering love for her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Balaton, in Beverly’s memory. May her soul rest in peace.
