According to the latest U.S. Census, there are 588 people living in Balaton, give or take. Judging by the full-steam-ahead progress of renovations to the town’s community center, you would think all of them had a hand in the process.

From a fresh coat of paint to removing the old flooring and replacing it with new, the 31-year-old community center is undergoing a major interior facelift thanks to a legion of volunteers whose only agenda is making the town a better place to live and play.

“We have an amazing, selfless group of volunteers that just bring everything they have to the table,” said Balaton Area Chamber of Commerce President Brita Fricke.
